Upon receiving her (first \u2013 she\u2019s a new patient) billing statement, one patient looked at the adjustments column and said \u201cWhat\u2019s this?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

I told her that they are the contractual adjustments I make because I am an in-network provider with her insurance.\u00a0 She was incensed \u2013 not at me, at the tiny tiny amount the insurance companies feel acupuncture is worth.\u00a0 She asked some other questions, like why I didn\u2019t change my rates.\u00a0 I pointed out that even if I did change my fees, all that would happen is that I would have to write off larger amounts.\u00a0<\/p>\n
